LightCore Expands Fiber Service into East St. Louis, Collinsville
EAST ST. LOUIS, IL, (SWI-News.com), August 31, 2003 - LightCore, a regional fiber transport provider in the central states, has expanded its network reach into East St. Louis and Collinsville, Ill., and is now providing dual, ring-protected fiber optic routes across the Mississippi River.
Until now carriers and service providers had limited network alternatives between the west and east portions of the St. Louis metropolitan area.
In a statement, Matt Porterfield, senior vice president of sales and marketing for LightCore, stated that "This network expansion is in response to strong and growing demand from our carrier customers. Our company is headquartered in St. Louis and has been serving the market for a number of years, but we never extended our network to the east side of the river. Twenty-five percent of the St. Louis area population now lives in Illinois, making it a market opportunity that's simply too large for our customers to ignore."
"By now probably everyone has heard about the so-called 'fiber glut' that's plaguing the telecommunications industry, but LightCore continues to find markets throughout the central states that are underserved," Porterfield said. "LightCore will continue to respond to our carrier customers' requests. We anticipate expanding to a number of new markets within our target region over the next twelve months."
LightCore installed two, physically diverse fiber optic cable routes across the Mississippi River. It also established a new point of presence, or POP, in Collinsville, where its customers can connect to the network.
LightCore's fiber optic network spans 5,700 total route miles, of which 3,200 are lit in portions of Missouri, Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Texas, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Tennessee.
LightCore, formerly Digital Teleport, Inc., is owned and operated by CenturyTel, headquartered in Monroe, La.
