Channel 9 Premieres Special on East St. Louis
EAST ST. LOUIS, IL, (SWI-News.com), June 12, 2003 - KETC Channel 9 will air Made in USA: The East St. Louis Story, a documentary of the one-time industrial boomtown, on June 25, at 7:00 p.m. The program traces the city's history as a ferry crossing, a rail center, a center of industry and eventually, "an inner city without the support of an outer city."

The program follows the city from the 1790s to the 1970s through interviews with former and current East St. Louis residents and historians, archival footage and photographs.

In an announcement, Jim Kirchherr, KETC producer, stated, "People think they know East St. Louis based on news headlines, on what they've read in papers over the past 30 years. But the current problems East St. Louis faces are the same ones that exited 100 years ago."

Author Andrew Theising, a political science professor at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, was the primary advisor during production of the KETC documentary. Made in USA: The East St. Louis Story will be repeated June 27 at 1:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. and June 29 at 10:30 a.m.
